Free billing software should be exactly that: a real free tier with no surprises, and the essentials to issue legal invoices and stay compliant. These platforms must meet Spain-specific needs such as applying IVA rates of 21%, 10%, or 4%, handling IRPF withholding on services to Spanish businesses, following invoice series and numbering rules, and being ready for QR codes and Verifactu compliance. They should also support Facturae or FACe when billing the public sector. This guide gives you a vetted short list, explains how to stay legal under Verifactu and Crea y Crece, and shows how to send public-sector electronic invoices at no cost.
Recommendations by volume: 1 to 5 invoices per month: Invoicely. 6 to 25: renn. Unlimited with light compliance: Zoho Invoice. Open-source or self-hosted: Invoice Ninja.

Verifactu is the AEAT system for real-time invoice record reporting, with integrity, signature, and QR or legend requirements. It complies with RD 1007/2023 and the OM HAC/1177/2024 technical specs.
Crea y Crece (B2B e-invoice) mandates structured e-invoicing between companies or self-employed professionals. Rollout is staged after the implementing order, starting with companies above €8 million turnover. It is separate from Verifactu.
Public sector billing requires Facturae format and delivery via FACe or a regional point. This is separate from both Crea y Crece and Verifactu.
Choose a tool that issues Spain-legal invoices, supports Verifactu now or soon, and can handle Facturae if you work with the public sector.
A Spanish invoice must include seller and buyer name and NIF, date, unique series and number, description, tax base, IVA rate and amount (21%, 10%, or 4%), and the total. Add IRPF withholding for professional services when required. Only show Recargo de Equivalencia if using the retail regime.
Look for these features in any free plan:
When invoicing a ministry, council, hospital, or similar, you must send Facturae XML, often signed with a qualified certificate, via FACe or a regional point.
Zero-cost options: B2Brouter Basic to create Facturae, send to FACe or FACeB2B, and track status; the free legacy Facturae desktop app; and MiFacturae web to validate, view, and search Facturae files.
Upgrade to paid tiers for high volume, Peppol, integrations, long-term storage, multi-format (UBL, Peppol BIS), or automation.
For needs beyond simple invoicing, see our online accounting platform guide.

From 1 July 2027, all businesses and autónomos using invoicing software must use a certified invoicing system (SIF) compliant with Verifactu (RD 1007/2023). Only use software with a valid responsible declaration filed with the AEAT.
Check that your vendor publishes their Verifactu declaration, implements QR code and legend on invoices, exports invoice events (Alta and Anulación), and, for SII users, confirms scope and exemptions.
For the full detail, see the Verifactu guide.
Create and send Facturae via B2Brouter Basic or a similar free portal. Validate and view Facturae files using MiFacturae online.
Steps: generate Facturae 3.2.x with all required fields, sign if needed, upload to FACe, keep the delivery receipt, track acceptance or rejection, and use MiFacturae to validate and view .xsig or .xml invoices and print human-readable copies.
renn is a gestoría built for autónomos. The free plan covers up to 25 invoices a month with the correct IVA and IRPF treatment, Verifactu-certified software, and automated quarterly tax filings without a separate gestor. For the full list of mandatory invoice fields, see mandatory invoice details. If you are not yet registered, renn handles autónomo registration online.
