The file has three tabs. Here is how each one works:

1. Income: add your sales invoices

2. Expenses: add your supplier invoices

3. Summary: view your VAT totals

That amount goes in box 64 of Form 303.

Why you must file Form 303

Form 303 is the quarterly VAT return. You pay the difference between the VAT you collected from your clients and the VAT you paid to your suppliers.

If the balance is negative, that credit carries over to the next quarter. In the fourth quarter you can request a direct refund.

When Excel is no longer enough

With few invoices per quarter, Excel works. But as your activity grows, manual records generate errors and deductions that slip through the cracks.

Many self-employed people end up switching to tools that connect to their bank and email, capture invoices automatically, and calculate VAT in real time. You always know where you stand before the quarter arrives. That is what renn does.
